John Groce

Fighting Illini men's basketball head coach John Groce was let go by the University of Illinois on Saturday.

The firing comes after the Fighting Illini lost in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament, 75-55, to Michigan on Friday.

Under Groce, the Illini had an overall record of 95-75 through his five seasons at the helm of the program.

Groce also posted a 37-53 Big Ten record, while only leading the Illini to one NCAA Tournament appearance during his tenure.

The Illini finished this season with an 18-14 overall record, and an 8-10 Big Ten record.

Illinois is currently listed as one many teams on the outside looking in for this year's NCAA Tournament, with an at-large berth not likely.
