Editor’s Note: The Vidette recently surveyed the Illinois State University students, faculty and staff on their favorite businesses, facilities and activities. More than 400 people responded to the online survey. Copies of the Best of Blo-No magazine are still available at sites across campus or at The Vidette Building.
As the Avengers gear up to save the galaxy and the "Star Wars" saga wraps up in December, there is no better place to watch the action than at Wehrenberg Galaxy 14 Theaters located at 1111 Wylie Drive in Bloomington.
The lobby is adorned with bright, '90s-era carpeting and galactic decor. The theater is filled with bright yellows contrasting dark purples. Neon lights frame signs at the entrance to auditoriums, all with a sci-fi theme.
“I haven’t been to any other theater in town,” Wehrenberg employee and junior Liz Kolze said. “We offer student discounts at our box office and concession stand, which I don’t think other theaters do.”
Student tickets are only $6 before tax, and there is a 20% discount at concessions, according to Kolze.
Wehrenberg Galaxy 14 has IMAX and IMAX 3D capabilities, as well as large red recliners in every theater. The concessions feature traditional favorites and newer food options like burgers and fries, as well as serving alcohol. There is an arcade in the lobby for guests to play at, and a lounge to relax in before a film starts.
Wehrenberg theaters have existed across the Midwest since 1904. They were acquired by Marcus theaters in 2016. There are 9 Wehrenberg locations in Illinois.
