Rec Center

The Rec won The Best of Guide's Best Place to Workout for 2019.

Editor’s Note: The Vidette recently surveyed the Illinois State University students, faculty and staff on their favorite businesses, facilities and activities. More than 400 people responded to the online survey. Copies of the Best of Blo-No magazine are still available at sites across campus or at The Vidette Building.

The Student Fitness Center is the best around, and they do it without breaking a sweat.

Hundreds of students use the facilities every day, and the fitness center is open early in the morning and late at night to accommodate student’s schedules.

While having plenty of equipment and space for students to use, the Student Fitness Center also offers personal training and friendly staff.

One of the core values and components of the fitness center is motivation, said member service associate Joshua Sanabria.

“Every day you come in it feels like you’re getting better, like you have that environment,” Sanabria said. “Every day you come in and there’s always people to motivate you and there’s always great faces. So every day feels like a better day.”

The fitness center  was completed in fall 2010 and officially opened in 2011. The new facility consists of basketball courts, cardio/strength training areas, an indoor track, group fitness spaces, a pool and a climbing wall. The center also includes classrooms, laboratories, and office space for the School of Kinesiology and Recreation, according the Campus Recreation website.
