If you plan to be in the Bloomington-Normal area over the holiday, there are several Fourth of July-related events to choose from.

Here are some of the highlights:

The Pantagraph’s Celebrate America at Miller Park

The Pantagraph’s Holiday Spectacular “Celebrate America” at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday 4 will be held at the Miller Park bandstand. This hour-long program celebrates the nation’s birth. The free event is in its 14th year.

Following the show on Thursday, the focus will be on the annual fireworks show.

4th of July in Miller Park

Guests are enouraged to bring a blanket and radio for the annual Sky Concert in Miller Park. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

The show will be set to music on WJBC AM 1230. The Sky Concert is sponsored by Bloomington Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts, State Farm Insurance and WJBC

Before the fireworks, guestscan enjoy the Celebrate America production at the Miller Park Bandstand at 7 p.m.

Also, the Miller Park paddle boats will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday and mini golf and the Sprayground will open at 10 a.m.


Fairview Park Sky Concert

Family friendly activities including inflatables, face painting and balloon artists will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Fairview Park. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket, radio for a concert starting at 6 p.m.

Beginning at dusk, around 9:15 p.m., fireworks will be set to music from WJBC AM 1230 and various FM stations.

Park 2 Park Run

This 5-mile run is a challenging point-to-point race cooperatively sponsored by Bloomington and Normal Parks and Recreation and the Lake Run Club. This inter-city race starts at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Wood Street near Miller Park in Bloomington, east on Wood Street, then north on Main Street, through downtown Bloomington, turns west on Gregory, then north on the Constitution Trail to The Corn Crib in Normal. Park 2 Park Run This 5-mile run is a challenging point-to-point race cooperatively sponsored by Bloomington and Normal Parks and Recreation, and the Lake Run Club. Visit the Lake Run Club at www.lakerunclub.org for information and registration. Entry cost is $30

Packet Pickup and In-Person Registration:

4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Often Running

6-7 a.m. Thursday at Miller Park Pavilion

Shuttle Service: Shuttle service is available between the Corn Crib and Miller Park. Prior to the race, buses will leave the Corn Crib beginning at 5:45 a.m. and ending at 6:15 a.m. After the race concludes, buses will leave the Corn Crib up through the awards ceremony.


4th of July Early Bird Swim

Get an early start on your 4th with a special early bird swim at Fairview Family Aquatic Center from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Admission is $1. There will be birthday cake and ice cream served at the end of the party (while it lasts), according to organizers. Special giveaways are available to children who attend the birthday celebration.The pool will be cleared at 10:15 a.m. and will re-open at 11 a.m. Regular admission prices will apply at this time: Adults ages 16 and over, $1; children ages 15 and under as well as season passholders are free.

Proud to be an American

The Farivew and Anderson Aquatic Centers encourages guest to come to the pool from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and enjoy activities, trivia and prizes. Activities will include slide contests and patriotic coloring contests.

9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Riverfront Festival Park and Center Stage
