The Switchback concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the BCPA’s Ballroom. Pre-show events begin at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased on the BCPA website.
Switchback is an award-winning traditional Celtic band that also incorporates original Americana songs to emphasis its Irish heritage and Midwestern ties.
The two-member band, Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack, plan to incorporate all-things Irish in their performance.
Ann-Marie Dittmann, assistant performing arts manager, said the performance will include Irish dancers.
“The McNulty Irish Dancers will be with them. The Flynn [School of Irish Dance] dance company, Central Illinois Step Dancers and the Springfield Scottish Dance Company will also be there,” Dittmann said.
Each dance company will perform to a Switchback song before all coming together for an ensemble encore. The St. Joseph choir is also set to make an appearance.
Dittmann said “Irish fare” will be for sale, including Irish stew, soda bread and shortbread cookies alongside beer, wine and other beverages.
Switchback is a Chicago-based band and Dittmann said they are nice guys.
“It’s always nice to have some Illinois artists even though we present world-class acts all over the world and country,” Dittman said.
Dittmann encourages students to attend the event if they are looking for an eventful evening.
“It’s nice to see more acoustic, traditional music, I think. It’s melodious and not often performed. The added element of dance makes it a really fun night out,” Dittmann said.
