Uptown Holiday Windows

From now until Dec. 31 the Uptown Holiday Windows will be on display to showcase traditions and the different holiday celebrations of the community.

From now until Dec. 31, the Uptown Holiday Windows will be on display in Uptown Circle. The artwork shows the many ways Normal community members celebrate the holiday season.

Uptown Holiday Windows includes a projection display on the windows of 1 Uptown Circle showcasing images from the past and present. There is also a "Magic of Christmas Morning" display inspired by the holiday windows often found at department stores.

The Town of Normal's Cultural Arts Department has developed the display in conjunction with the Illinois State University School of Theater and Dance, N Scale of Bloomington Normal and Projection Designer Pete Guither.

Additional support has been provided by the McLean County Museum of History and Holiday Spectacular, Inc.

The projection display is from hundreds of holiday images that show winter traditions and holiday celebrations. These photos were submitted by members of the community and the McLean County History Museum. The photos range from the 1940s to the present. From 4 - 9p.m. daily the projection will loop about every 10 minutes.

The “Magic of Christmas Morning” display can be found on the north side of the building where Uptown Circle and North Street meet.

Additional window installations were designed by ISU scenic design graduate student Roman Reyes and will bookend projection surfaces facing Uptown Circle. These installations will be available for viewing in the daytime and evening.
