It seems that the Syria conflict changes everyday. This all started with the Syrians attacking a neighborhood in Damascus on August 21. Over 1400 people, including over 400 children, were killed by suffocating gas. After test results came back, they revealed that the gas or chemical weapon is now said to be sarin, which is a nerve-destroying gas. The Syrian Government denies the allegation. On Saturday, President Obama announced that he will be calling in congress and having them decided if a military strike will take place. However, Obama does have the power to make that decision on his own. The United States is also facing the issue of other countries backing out and not wanting to take part in military action against Syria. Britain has voted to not take action, and France will not join unless the U.S. has a partner. Attack on Syria is now said to be “limited,” meaning no troops on the ground because it is too much of a risk. The August 21 attack in Damascus was horrific and the U.S. needs to take a stand.
Ok, so I know this isn’t the most important topic of the week, but since I am a pageant girl, I just had to discuss it:
Miss Philippines USA contestant, Joanlia Lising, was obviously very nervous and unprepared for her on-stage question. During competition, she was asked, “Among the five senses, what do you prefer to have if you could only have one, and why?” Lising responded with many lines that made you cringe such as, “Seeing is believing” and, “Seeing is the best sense that we can ever see.” At first I could not get through the video because I felt so bad for her. On-stage question is, in my opinion, the hardest phase of competition. Everyone is staring at you to see if you will answer this completely random question with poise and grace, or if you will make a complete fool out of yourself. Although almost every pageant girl has bombed an on-stage question, it’s how you come back after that makes the difference. As practice makes perfect, I truly hope she comes back stronger and more confident after this.
Let the college football begin! Fall and football are two of my favorite things this time of year. This past Saturday was the day where we saw all the game-day instagram’s, angry fan tweets and Facebook status updates by the minute. Games were played all day with some of the wins going to Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama, and of course, we can’t forget Illinois beating SIUC! Opening weekend was certainly interesting to watch. Now let’s see what teams can prove themselves throughout this season!
