ISU television program TV-10 totaled 11 awards with finalists placing within the top three of every nomination at the Illinois Broadcasters Association Student Silver Dome Awards on Sept. 13.
The Silver Dome Awards winners were announced at a luncheon at the Bone Student Center on Friday. TV-10 placed first in the categories of Best TV Newscast, Photojournalism entry of “God and Coffee” and Best TV Spot with an entry of “Kidnapping.”
The members of the Best TV Newcast include Alexis McAdams, Celsy Martindale, Zach Bernard, Lindsey Harrison, Michael Robbins, Joshua Paris, Chad Ballard, Austin Beaty, Brett Edwards, Lauren Hernandez and Aaron Eades.
Marisa Corradetti, public relations for TV-10, shed some light on the significance of the Illinois Broadcaster Association Silver Dome Awards.
“The purpose of these awards is to honor the broadcasting excellence and quality of radio and TV stations within the state of Illinois each and every year,” Corradetti said. “This wouldn’t be possible without the drive the students and staff have, in addition to the support the university gives.”
Among the other categories TV-10 either placed second or third in Best TV Longform Programming, Best TV Spot, Best TV Photojournalism, Best TV News Pack, Best TV Newscast and Best TV Sports Pack.
Additionally, this year at the Silver Dome Awards marks the most nominations TV-10 has received at one time.
“In my opinion, I think that these nominations show just how amazing the journalism program at ISU really is,” Corradetti said. “It’s honestly incredible seeing how hard the students and staff work at TV-10, all to successfully update the community with the latest news.”
For the future, these awards by TV-10 look to be a positive impact on the prospective enrollment of journalism majors.
“I definitely think that these accomplishments could bring a lot more students to seek a journalism route,” Corradetti said. “To be honest, I think success plays a great deal in inspiring people. Seeing all of TV-10’s accomplishments just might move a lot of students to pursue a career route in the field of journalism.”
The Silver Dome Awards are honors given out by the Illinois Broadcasters Association. The Student Silver Dome Awards recognize the best in state broadcasting for radio, TV, news, promotion and other types of programming.
If a person wishes to qualify for the Silver Dome Awards, one must submit an entry to the Illinois Broadcasters Association. After an entry is turned in, a panel of out-of-state broadcasters will judge the work submitted.
