The term “guilty pleasure” is tossed around pretty frequently. It refers to the things we are not really supposed to like, and God forbid, if we do, we are supposed to keep mum about them. But I do not buy it. And I do not think you should either. Below, you will find just some of the things I enjoy, whether it is cool or not.
I only recently discovered this Christina Aguilera album (like ten years late), but this CD came out when I was 10 years old and this is not the type of music I ordinarily seek out. However, some of the tracks in particular really resonated with me. “Cruz,” “Keep On Singin’ My Song,” and “The Voice Within” are some of my favorites.
Admittedly, I was one of those cynical and staunch haters of the show without even really having seen it and only started getting into it as it neared its final run. I was sitting there in my living room one December morning trying to study for my finals (and if you know me at all, you would know that when I say studying I mean sleeping) and MTV had some sort of marathon going on. It kind of got me hooked right then and there. Before, I thought those people were a total waste of life and I totally still do think that, but it is trashy entertainment at its finest.
Suburban gossip, secrets and scandals make for great television viewing, no? I think this show is too easily written off by those who have not given it a chance, but the comedy mixed in with the drama makes a winning combination for this show. Undeniably, the first four seasons trump the last four, but it is still worthy of watching. Even though it has been cancelled, all eight seasons are available on DVD, On Demand and Netflix today.
I am not sure that Usher’s 2004 hit totally counts as a guilty pleasure because almost everyone I know likes this song, but I am pretty sure it is an undisputed modern classic. No matter where I am or who I am with when this song comes on you best believe I am busting a major move.
Real World/Road Rules Challenge
There is something about this show that I have enjoyed for years. I actually prefer watching more of the challenge side of it rather than the drama, which comes in no short supply and seems to be the main focus these days, but I still think it is worthy of watching. The 13-year-old in me sometimes has more power than I care to admit.
I love this movie. I mean I really, really love this movie. Every time I watch it, it is like I am watching it for the first time. I genuinely find just about everything about it to be hilarious. And who could forget Chris Farley’s short but notable appearance? “Everybody on? Good. Great. Grand. Wonderful. NO YELLING ON THE BUS!”
“Crazy in Love”
Beyoncé’s reign as “queen of the world” shows no end in sight. Even though this song is already 10 years old, I can still remember some of the choreography to this song from my 6th grade dance class. “Love on Top” is also perfectly jam-worthy.
