Possible Government Shutdown
This past week the Republican-led House voted to launch the newest spending issue in Congress. This could potentially bring a government shutdown within the next two weeks.
The tally was 230-189 and based almost all on party lines. CNN reports, the House has passed a short-term spending plan to eliminate funding for Obamacare. This measure will now go to the Democratic-led senate, which is said to reject the provision.
This is not the first time House Republicans have voted to repeal Obamacare. The count has now reached over 40 times. Speaker John Boehner and Republicans held a victory rally to celebrate the action and encouraged the Senate to follow their lead. The Republicans are made out to be the bad guys here but with a government so torn on party lines how will things ever get solved? The Democrats do not believe repealing Obamacare will take place.
The House has passed a resolution to keep the government funded for the first 11 weeks of the fiscal year, beginning October 1st. Some parts of the government would have to shut down because of the lack of spending measure up until then. This could cause many local families, as well as families around the country, to be put under a great deal of stress.
