This semester, I finally have a car at school. It has been a real convenience. I can get around Blo-No on my own time without having to wait on public transportation. However, having a car at school has not been completely ideal. There is a lot of traffic in the area and I have already been in one accident.
Before classes began, I was sitting at a red light on the corner of Vernon and Veterans. I was just sitting there, minding my own business. I was suddenly hit by the car behind me. It ended up being a four car pileup. It was my first wreck and luckily I did not hit anyone. My car had minor damage. But the guy who caused this chain reaction totaled his car. Now I avoid Veterans Parkway as much as I can.
A couple of days ago I was driving on College Ave eastbound, trying to turn right onto Veterans. The driver turned on his blinker telling me he wanted to cut in front me. So I slowed down. But he then turned his blinker off and continued heading straight. I thought he changed his mind about changing lanes. As I prepared to turn, he then cut me off with no blinker on, and almost took the front end of my car off. Was I supposed to read his mind? Was he trying to endanger my life on purpose?
The main roads in Blo-No are heavily traveled by many people every day. So obviously there is going to be a lot of traffic, but people are so careless. They are not paying attention because they are distracted with other things. I really do not care to have my life put on the line every time I drive because others are in a hurry. The simple answer is to stop driving and go back to taking public transportation. But I cannot do that because I need to get around town when it is convenient for me. I am a defensive driver. But seriously, some of the roads in Blo-no are like a speedway. Where are the police? I just hope I am lucky enough not to get into another wreck before I graduate.
