Illinois State Cheerleading’s week has been full of practice time. Just like all athletics, after games comes more practice working on what went wrong and what can be fixed for the next game. Overall, a majority of the team was happy with how the game went but everyone was aware of what needed to be worked on.
Timing was one thing. At practice everything always goes right because it’s practice. Once game day comes, nerves get in the way and often throw everyone off a bit. This was some of the members’ first time cheering in front of a college audience and the nerves definitely showed. It can be overwhelming, especially in the new stadium, but I was very happy with how the new members reacted. There were a couple of glitches in our performance including some falls. These falls were fixed right away at our practice on Tuesday. It is not like ISU Cheerleading to drop in front of an audience but that was fixed immediately.
At Wednesday’s practice, open stunt was taken into full motion. Every member was trying new things, which always gets me excited. All-girl and Co-ed hit front flips from halves and they look amazing. Groups who were missing some people due to class accomplished individual stunts. It has been a relaxing week and an easy weekend it still to come. Hopefully this week helped prep everyone for the upcoming Homecoming Week. It is crazy to see this year already flashing forward before my eyes.
