Faculty and staff will be recognized for all their work and accomplishments at the annual Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center.
“This is a small token of university appreciation for all the work they have done,” Julie Barnhill, director of Presidential Trustees and University Events Services, said.
The luncheon is exclusively for university faculty and staff as a way to get them involved in the homecoming events if they are not participating already.
A complimentary buffet-style lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by a program at 12:30 p.m. President Timothy Flanagan and Nancy Flanagan will be in attendance speaking to faculty and staff and just thanking all of them for their contributions.
Doris Groves, executive director of Alumni Engagement, will announce the winners of the Homecoming Campus Decorating Contest during the program as well. This contest allowed offices and departments on campus to display their school spirit and Redbird pride with decorations. Whether they chose to enter the contest or not, there will still be special decorating awards for those who simply stood out.
In addition to the decorating contest winners, the Administrative Professional (AP) Council and Civil Service employees will announce their scholarship recipients. Civil Service will also be selling raffle tickets throughout the luncheon.
Barnhill explained that this luncheon has been in place for nearly fourteen years. It may not seem that long compared to other events but even the smallest amount of gratitude shows that ISU takes the work of faculty and staff seriously.
It also encourages students to appreciate all the contributions faculty and staff make to their education and well-being. There are many faculty and staff who go beyond their assigned duties to give students the opportunities they currently have.
This event is free for university faculty and staff so they are encouraged to come and be recognized for their achievements.
