1. Grand View Drive
Established in 1903, Grand View Drive and Park in Peoria is constructed of multi-colored foliage, panoramic views of the Illinois River Valley and historical landmarks. You can either drive the 2.52-mile track or hike along its scenic trail. Go with a group of friends, or bring your significant other for a romantic, fall date.
2. Pike County Illinois Color Drive
Another great place to take advantage of this season is the Pike County Color Drive. Located in West Central Illinois, Pike County is home to rivers, rolling hills and picturesque views. The Color Drive is hosted every third week of October and features various activities, vendors, foods, crafts and exhibits.
3. Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway
Located in Ottawa, the byway was once used by early French Explorers. It showcases a one-of-a-kind view of the Illinois River, as well as historic canals, unique wildlife and scenic wetlands. Choose to either bike or hike the trail, stopping by different communities along the way that are home to various restaurants, shops, festivals and more.
4. Spoon River Drive
The Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive is another way to get your fix of fall. Located in Fulton County, Spoon River Valley not only showcases autumn’s natural beauty, but it also hosts a variety of vendors from all over Illinois that come dressed in turn-of-the-century garb. The event is held the first two weekends of October.
5. Constitution Trail
The final place to take in the true beauty of fall is located right in ISU’s backyard. At this time of year, the trail is absolutely breathtaking. Walking along the historic path will have you covered in its colorful foliage. Take note of the various historical markings along the way, and don’t forget to look around you. The environment and bridges lining the trail makes for an ideal, autumn experience.
