This is the week that tests my organization skills and multitasking. It’s homecoming week at Illinois State! It is time for activities every night, practice, homework and lots of free food. The Illinois State Cheerleaders have multiple appearances this week. Starting Monday, the homecoming activities begin with the Homecoming Kickoff. My favorite part about this night is eating the free food and being able to mingle with students. I love hearing students’ opinions on what they are most excited for or how school is going.
Tuesday night is Redbird Rumble! This is my favorite night of Homecoming week besides the game on Saturday. I look forward to bonding with my teammates as we try to win every game. The cheerleaders take this event seriously. Not only are we competing with other organizations but also we compete against our own teammates. Since our numbers are large, the cheerleaders have to split up into four different teams. It is always a competition each other rather than other organizations.
On Wednesday, we have our only practice of the week to work on game material. This is the practice that counts. Everything we practice on Wednesday will be performed on Saturday.
Friday consists of a pep assembly at Advocate Bromenn to rally the doctors, nurses and patients. Also, it is the bonfire.
Then Saturday is parade and game day!! This is our last parade. It is sort of a bittersweet day. I am only a junior but these homecomings keep passing by and it makes me realize I have one more after this year. I can only hope that the Redbirds play their hardest and bring home that Homecoming win.
It is time to show my Redbird spirit and spread the joy of Homecoming to all students.
