Campus Recreation is hoping to give 11 students the chance to get away for the weekend by attending its Camp and Hike trip to Kickapoo State Park from Oct. 12-13.
“This trip is a great opportunity to get outside and experience the fall landscape and area wildlife,” Bill James, assistant director for Adventure programs, said. “Kickapoo State Park provides an extensive collection of hiking trails ready to be explored.”
The cost of the trip is $50 for students and members of the fitness center and $60 for nonmembers. It will cover all meals, equipment and transportation.
According to James, students will leave campus Saturday morning, spend part of the day hiking, camp overnight and then hike Sunday morning before heading back to campus.
Kickapoo State Park is located near Champaign, a little over an hour away from campus.
“We just did a climb and hike with camping this past weekend, and it was an amazing trip,” James said. “The students had a lot of fun … The weather is starting to cool off, so it’s a little more enjoyable.”
“This trip should not be confused as a hardcore extended camping and hiking trip,” Bill Thornton, a student who has attended many campus recreation trips, said.
“All of the trips by Adventure Connection have been geared toward participants that have little to no experience in the activity … Thanksgiving break is still a long ways out, and this trip will definitely serve as a great midterm stress reliever.”
