Advocate BroMenn Thrift Shop, previously located at 1203 S. Main St., shut its door on Sept. 7 to move to its new home on 1322-A S. Main St.
On Sept. 9, Advocate BroMenn Thrift Shop began the move to the new location which is the fifth location for the hospital thrift shop. The business was closed for one week while the move to the new location took place.
For a number of years there had been discussion of finding another location for the Advocate BroMenn Thrift Shop which had outgrown the last facility some time ago.
Debbie Schafer, Advocate BroMenn Thrift Shop manager, shared some thoughts on the significance of the new location.
“Our philosophy is creating a pleasant shopping environment for our customers,” Schafer said. “The only thing that has changed as a result of the move to the new store is the location and the addition of many parking spaces. New arrivals are added to the selection each day, and on any given day you can find fabulous items, rare pieces, one of a kind and crazy, funny stuff too.”
The grand opening was celebrated at the new location from Oct. 1-5. It began with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce.
Advocate BroMenn Thrift Shop accepts gently used items of all kinds. These submissions include clothing, shoes, hats, scarves, gloves, purses and many other accessories.
They also accept household items such as furniture, framed art, lamps, blankets and throws, comforters, throw pillows, fabric remnants, and sewing and craft supplies. Collectibles, antiques, decorative items and kitchenware are viable submissions, too.
“We are grateful for our customer and donor support,” Schafer said. “I know that each of them realizes the importance of their support. The revenue earned from the sale of donated, gently used items is used to fund projects in support of Advocate BroMenn Medical Center patients, their families and the community.”
At the end of each month, Advocate BroMenn Thrift Shop offers clothing and other items for sale at 35 cents each and one day when clearance items are free. The thrift shop also offers a frequent shopper reward program and Senior Wednesday.
The hours of operation for Advocate BroMenn Thrift Shop are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The thrift shop accepts donated items from Monday through Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the donation entrance on the north side of the building.
Advocate BroMenn is always looking for volunteers who are interested in supporting their efforts. Volunteers are the foundation of our business, Schafer said.
