Everyone remembers “The Talk.” There is no way that you could ever forget it. I mean of course it was traumatizing to listen to your parents talk about sex and love and babies and all the things you should wait until at LEAST age 47 before thinking about.
I will never forget the turning point for me; the Jamie Lynn Spears scandal. A Nickelodeon regular on All That and star of Zoey 101, was knocked up at age 16. For me, that triggered the infamous “Talk.” Thanks Jamie Lynn, I blame you.
“The Talk” can be the most awkward of conversations. Almost as awkward as the time my mom showed me how to use a tampon and a pad at age 9. I didn’t even get my period until I was 15… but thanks to mom for showing me the ways of the world early on.
For me, the “Talk” consisted of the cliché “wait until you’re really in love sweetie,” “Your body is a temple,” and my favorite, “Kissing leads to sex, sex leads to babies, so basically kissing will get you pregnant.”
No matter what lines your parents used you will never forget them. Heck, you will probably even use them on your kids.
Now obviously the times have changed and if you still think kissing is going to get you pregnant, then I would suggest a counselor.
As college students, I think it is safe to say the majority of us tend not to think before we act. It is clear that your pre teenage self and your reckless college self have different views on sex. As a pre teen sex was bad and if you even thought about it you would get herpes. College life brings out your wild side and you probably don’t think about it like you used to.
Sex becomes more like having a conversation. Sex is normal and casual in college. It has lost to formality and the mystery.
Now by no means am I saying go out and have sex like it’s your job. I am suggesting that today’s standards for sexual intercourse have completely dropped in recent years. And yes, I only said it like that to sound really smart.
I never understood why they use “intercourse” in Sex Ed classes instead of “sex.” The word “Intercourse” is so much more graphic.-
So not to get too parental on you readers out there, but next time a guy tries to take you home, at least make sure he doesn’t have Chlamydia. I would say the best way to ruin your night would be to think, “What would my mother say about this?” You are welcome.
