Hundreds of prints from students, faculty, staff and visiting artists will be on display and available for purchase at the 29th annual Printmakers’ Exhibition and Sale.
The exhibition will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, in the Center for the Visual Arts (CVA), Room 123.
The event is held on the first Friday of each December and is popular with the community and participating artists.
“It’s an opportunity for artists to have their prints seen and possibly purchased, so it’s very exciting,” Veda Rives, associate director of Normal Editions Workshop, said.
“It’s great for them to see people they don’t know recognizing the value of their work.”
Both undergraduates taking their first class in printmaking and experienced graduate students are given the choice to put their work on display, and work from faculty and staff is also featured. Visiting artists will take part as well.
“Some honored alumni also donated some of their work for the fundraiser,” Rives said.
In all, about 30 artists will be selling prints at the exhibition. Prices for most prints will range from $2 to $50. Payment can be made by check, credit card or cash.
Five silent auctions will also be held to sell prints from artists Sarah Smelser, Morgan Price, Richard Finch and Rudy Pozzatti.
Rives says the pieces for the auctions were picked out to be highlighted; unlike the other prints for sale, these prints are pre-framed for the bidder.
All proceeds of the silent auctions will go to the Printmaking Student Travel Fund, which supports student participation in national and regional conferences.
Bids for the silent auctions can be made ahead of time through email, as well as before or during the sale.
