Just a little over a month from now, HBO will premier season three of their hit series, “Girls”. Girls has received much press over the past two years due to its success, writing and the unstoppable force that is Lena Dunham. Simply put, Girls is where it’s at!
In various articles, the show has been compared to Sex and the City. It has that finding-yourself-in-New York vibe that skyrocketed Sex and the City into our hearts and earned itself a place in television history. Girls represents the same qualities, but in a more down to earth way. The four women in which the show is focused on come from different walks of life and are living in New York, doing their own thing. While living in New York may ‘make you naturally interesting’ as Hannah Horvath, played by Lena Dunham, says in the first season, it takes more to make a show successful. Girls touches on a variety of topics ranging from light-hearted break ups to severe issues with OCD all written in a witty and tasteful way. I cannot forget to mention the fashion choices. Watch one episode and take a gander at anything Hannah and Shoshanna wears – oh my, priceless.
I can remember being in my dorm sophomore year watching some movie on HBO and seeing a commercial for some new show called Girls that would be starting up on Sunday. I asked my roommate if she would be down to watch it with me. Long story short, she agreed and I now we have a Girls poster hanging in my living room. Lena Dunham replied to one of my tweets once. I am not the only one who thinks the show is really something special. Girls has been praised throughout the media and has snagged an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Needless to say, the show has taken off.
If you have not seen seasons 1 and/or 2 of Girls they are available on HBO Go. Or if you are feeling rebellious start up where I left off, season three. Season three debuts Sunday, Jan. 12 at 9pm. This time around we are being gifted with two new episodes back-to-back! Set your DVR’s or clear your schedules, you will not want to miss this!
