Another semester is winding down. It’s hard sometimes to think about school wrapping up while trying to simultaneously gear yourself up for finals. Almost done… but don’t relax just yet! Here’s a week off for Thanksgiving, now get your butt back to town and study for finals! Relaxing and plenty of sleep is important for successful test taking, but we expect you to regurgitate three and a half months of material next week, so study up!
It’s all just so exhausting. And isn’t the week before finals so lovely? ‘Tis the season for presentations, group projects, papers, and final projects. You know that the light is at the end of the tunnel, but you’re just too darn busy to even look up and see it. They say that this type of stress prepares you for the “real world” and life after college. They say that final exams measure how much you have learned over the course of the semester. I say it is all bull. In the “real world” you will be Googling terms you aren’t familiar with and collaborating with coworkers. I’ll bet that not many of us will be spending every night memorizing material so that we can sit down in front of our bosses the next day and recite definitions from memory. It’s just not fair. This week, it feels like we, the students, are being tested, controlled, and stretched to the limits.
But, it is what it is. Believe it or not, at the end of next week, the semester will be done, regardless of how much we stress out or study. When the caffeine starts wearing off, the to-do list seems to be never-ending, and you can’t remember the last time you slept, just take a break. Take the time to look up from the books, look for that light at the end of the tunnel, and give thanks that we are all fortunate enough to be able to study, learn, and grow at an amazing school like this when so many people would love to have the opportunity to go to any college. This week, take the time to remember that we, the students, are being blessed, empowered, and educated.
Good luck on finals, Redbirds! See you next semester!
