Construction for the new Jason’s Deli continues on Veterans Parkway in Bloomington. It is replacing the old Bakers Square, and will be opening this spring.

A Jason’s Deli will be making its first Central Illinois appearance at the former Bakers Square site in Normal off of Veterans Parkway.

The location that was scheduled to open in March will now open in April or May, Jason’s Deli spokeswoman Madison Boozer said.

Jason’s Deli originally opened in Beaumont, Texas in 1976 and began franchising in 1988. The deli will offer a variety of its signature sandwiches, soups, pastas and a salad bar to the Bloomington-Normal community.

The deli also takes a healthy approach when preparing its food. Every menu item is free of trans fat, MSG, high-fructose corn syrup and artificial coloring.

In addition, it will offer a wide variety of gluten-free items and 14 organic options.

“If it doesn’t belong there and is not doing anything that tastes great, we get rid of it,” Boozer said.

There are plenty of indulging items available on this menu as well,  such as the Rueben sandwich, which is very popular among the Chicago market, she added.

The deli will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Catering will also be available for early pickup upon request at the 321 S. Veterans Parkway location.

Jason’s Deli will also support the Normal community as a whole, offering student reward cards, sponsorships and donations.

The deli chain has worked with community partners such as churches, non-profits, elementary and middle schools in the past.

“We give back as much as we can, whenever we can,” Boozer said.
