Regular season closes for ISU track and field

The Redbirds competed Saturday in Champaign, marking the end of the regular indoor season and the final meet before the team heads to the MVC championship.

Printassia Johnson had a season-best time in the 60-meter dash at 7.74 to place second. She also finished second in the 200-meter with a time of 25.51. Sarah Mussallem also had a season-best 60-meter time at 7.93 to place fifth.

Jackie Mink ran the 800-meter in a season-best time of 2:17.35 to finish third, and Kim Christensen and Haley Goers finished second and third in the mile with season-best times of 4:58.11 and 4:59.22, respectively.

Kaitlyn Neiheisel finished second in the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 3.56m. Amanda Young finished just after her in third at a height of 3.11m.

Jianna Williams placed first in both throwing events. She had a weight throw of 18.76m and a shot put of 14.10m. Morgan Keller had a personal best of 13.64 in the shot put to finish third, which beated her career-best mark by a foot.

On the men’s side, Deshaun Jordan ran a personal-best in the 200-meter with a time of 22.64 as he finished in first place. He also placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.13.

“We were looking for some kids to step up and perform to show they can compete at the conference meet,” head coach Elvis Forde said. “Deshaun ran the 60-meter dash for the first time today, but I was impressed with his 200-meter run more than anything else. He has missed a lot of the season because of an injury, but he competed very well today.”

Antonio Farley ran the 400-meter sprint with a time of 49.63 to place first. He was followed by Jalen Lewis, Coty Framer and Javar Cruz as the Redbirds took the four top spots in the race.

Ryan Bybee placed second in the mile as well as the 800-meter with times of 4:20.64 and 1:56.80, respectively.

Jake DeJaegher had a season-best in the high jump with a mark of 2.05m.

Akil Mills and Curt Jensen continued their tear in the throws. Jensen had a meet-record shot put heave with a distance of 19.77m to place first. He also threw for 19.03m in the weight throw to finish second behind Mills, who placed first with a distance of 20.70m. Mills also finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 15.13m.

“Curt and Akil continue to perform at a very high level, we have high expectations for them beyond the conference meet next week.”

The Redbirds will compete Saturday and Sunday in Cedar Falls, Iowa for the MVC Championships.
