With the 86th Academy Awards only days away, it’s time to squeeze in a few last minute motion pictures and cast a mental ballot for what and whom you think deserves an Oscar. Here are five must see films before they roll out the red carpet.
1 “American Hustle”
“American Hustle” has already taken home a number of awards this season, making it the one to beat at the Oscars. Nominated for Best Picture, you have to see this movie for its unbelievably talented cast and entertaining plot. The story follows two con artists who team up with an FBI agent. “American Hustle” just might win your vote.
Starring Joaquin Phoenix, “Her” invites its audience into the near future to meet a man in a relationship with his computer’s operating system. Up for Best Picture, “Her” is a unique love story that’s worth your time. Its bittersweet storyline and interesting way of delineating the future is what makes it Oscar-worthy.
3 “Blue Jasmine”
Taking on the role of a Manhattan socialite who loses everything she once had, Cate Blanchett’s performance in “Blue Jasmine” will more than likely win her an Oscar this weekend. Nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Blanchett was already awarded a Golden Globe for her work in the movie, making her an obvious frontrunner.
One of the less talked about films this award season, “Nebraska” is nominated for Best Picture. A sweet film about a dysfunctional, though loveable father/son duo, this movie stands out from the crowd. Once you see “Nebraska,” you’ll be thankful you did. You might even be rooting for it this weekend.
5 “Dallas Buyers Club”
Following a man diagnosed with AIDS who helps others get the medication they need, “Dallas Buyers Club” is a favorite this award season. Matthew McConaughey’s raw, extraordinary performance gives this story life, making it a likely Oscar winner.
