On Saturday, ISU Cheerleading hosted a college cheer clinic. This clinic was open to all high school and college students who had an interest in joining the Redbird Cheerleaders. Cheerleaders of all ages came out and the event was amazing. We had over 50 students come to stunt with our current team and meet with our coaches. The most exciting part of the day was that my mom and sister came up. Early December my sister was accepted into Illinois State. Needless to say, my reaction was joyful. I could not be happier that my little sister will be joining me here. She cheered in high school and decided to follow in my footsteps and try collegiate cheerleading. Though, this clinic wasn’t a tryout, it was overwhelming and a little emotional seeing her stunt with my teammates. I always knew that she was going to grow up but it hit me hard today. I can’t wait to see her grow in front of my eyes at the college level. The rest of the girls and guys who came did a wonderful job. There will be serious competition at the tryouts in April. I was happy to see a great turnout of cheerleaders who have a deep passion for what this sport is about. Hopefully, all of the cheerleaders show up at our next clinic in March and the tryouts.
