Bloomington’s Lake Run Club started its running year with the Miller Park Zoo Stampede on March 1.
The club, which began as a grassroots group called the Thursday Night Run Club, recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. Now the Lake Run Club has over 1,000 members.
This year, the club has 18 circuit races planned, including last weekend’s Miller Park Zoo Stampede. Some of the other races include the St. Patrick’s Day 5K on March 16, Park 2 Park 5 mile on July 4 and the Lake Run on May 3.
The group also runs several programs, including Catch the Wave, a 10-week training program geared toward beginning runners. The goal of Catch the Wave is to prepare participants for the Lake Run in May, which is a 4.37 mile race, and to help them get fit and have fun.
The club also has a program for children called Kids Run for Fun, marathon and half-marathon training programs, and more.
Yearly membership in the club costs $20 for individuals or $25 per family.
