Students who are graduating in May can definitely be identified by their behaviors. They probably have a million reminders scheduled on their phone to order their cap and gown, to have their résumé checked at the career center and to start finalizing their portfolio. When on a computer, a graduating senior will most likely be seen scouring LinkedIn and perfecting their profile.
Personal branding is key when trying to find a career or internship, but learning how to do it correctly can be confusing.
At 8 p.m. Tuesday, PRSSA and SGA are hosting guest speaker Jason Mollica in Schroeder 138. Mollica will be speaking on the topic of personal branding and how students can brand themselves for a professional career, including landing internships and jobs.
Mollica is the president of JRM Comm, a public relations and social media marketing consultancy. JRM Comm helps professionals market their business professionally through social media and public relations.
Mollica is an active member of PRSA who regularly contributes to leading industry blogs as well as running his own. He also speaks to Fortune 500 companies, professional organizations and PRSSA Chapters across the country.
Marrison Worthington, senior public relations major and vice president of PRSSA is eager for students to learn more about this event.
“Some of the topics being covered at the event include using social media for professional reasons, thinking about the direction of your career, benefits of using LinkedIn and the importance of online portfolios,” Worthington said.
The event on Tuesday is free and open to all students. This discussion will focus on many different career paths, including nursing, education, health information management, business and communication.
“There will also be a raffle at the event, and after the talk students will have the opportunity to speak and network with Mollica,” Worthington said.
