Recently, things have been very busy in the Illinois State cheer world. When I’m not running around like a crazy person trying to get my homework accomplished or applying for internships, I’ve been in the gym preparing for next weekends tryouts. Going into this tryout as a senior is a little bitter sweet. I’m thrilled to finish my final year here but also very nervous. I’m not sure if this big world is ready for me because I’m certainly not ready for it. Along with hosting open gyms two nights a week, ISU cheer is getting involved on campus. We’ve assisted the ROTC with their blood drives and have also made a couple of appearances. The end of the school year is near and I’m going to recap on what this past year’s team has accomplished.
After meeting as the new team last April we had some pretty big stepping-stones. We received two new coaches who have brought some exciting changes to the program. We were the team to cheer in the new football stadium. We’ve made multiple appearances with Redbird Athletics, cheered the volleyball and basketball teams on during their season and post-season tournaments and performed at IHSA Cheer State in February.
This year has been wonderful. I’ve enjoyed my time with this team and made new friends. I’m looking forward to what our new team will accomplish and excited to meet my new teammates.
