Auditing finds flaws in police and coroner training

State Rep. Dan Brady’s concerns over mismanagement over police and coroner training were confirmed after he requested a state audit.  The report was issued by Auditor General William Holland who said that proper records were not taken to show who was trained with $1.6 million in 2010.

Brady said that they were not seeing increases in training and classes designed for a portion of the money, which showed through the audit, and that they could not present a list of who was elected coroner in the state of Illinois and that this agency is responsible for training under the act.

The money came from a two dollar surcharge in death certificates. Some of this money was spent on food and lodging funds at seminars.

Brady says he hopes the board will follow the recommendations given through the audit that will include detailed records and more clear guidelines on expenses allowed.
