Providing a great way to end the semester on a good note, The School of Theatre and Dance is hosting the Spring Dance Concert Thursday.
The show will run at 7:30 p.m. on the evenings of Thursday through Saturday with a matinee performance on Saturday at 2 p.m. All shows will take place in the Center for the Performing Arts.
The Spring Concert is sure to be a special one. Senior dance performance major, Megan Klug, said the show will include several pieces that feature a mix of modern dance styles.
“Each piece was choreographed by a different person, and each choreographer got their inspiration from their own life,” Klug said.
“They may work with the dancers to help create the choreography, but ultimately choreographers are the ones to create the idea for the work.”
Klug herself is performing a piece choreographed by Jessica Riss entitled “Lucid Reverie.”
“We’ve been working all semester to create a work that embodies our inspiration and theme.”
Klug explained that the theme is open-ended in nature.
“As artists and performers in the dance world, We like to leave each piece up to the audience’s interpretation, to allow them to take what they need from each piece,” she said.
This is certainly an intriguing notion, one that implies that a therapeutic atmosphere will be created during the concert.
As the school year is coming to a close, this will be the last major event hosted by Illinois State’s dance program.
It also marks the end of Klug’s education at ISU. She shared a bit about her time here.
“These past four years, I’ve had a lot of amazing opportunities such as working with guest artists from different parts of the country and even traveling to Brazil with the dancers,” Klug said.
“I have come so far and learned so much. I’m excited to go out into the world and share all of my knowledge and experiences.”
