Senior shot put thrower Curt Jensen clinched his second All-American honor of the season at NCAA Nationals earlier this month.
With a strong third preliminary throw of 19.49 meters (63-11.50), Jensen moved from 17th place to seventh place, solidifying a position in the finals. However, Jensen was unable to best his preliminary throw, and finished eighth overall.
“I think he realized that he needed to throw big,” said head coach Jeff Bovee. “He had a much better final series, but couldn’t crack into the top four or five. Regardless, he still capped off a fantastic senior year.”
For the 2013-2014 season, Jensen captured 15 top-five finishes in three separate events. With three consecutive first-place finishes in the shot put, Jensen broke both the Missouri Valley Conference and Illinois State shot put records on two of those three victories. Presently, Jensen continues to hold those records with a mark of 20.33 meters (66-08.50), which was thrown during the Redbird Invite.
