Nick Aussieker, Illinois State’s starting kicker, was named to the 2014 College Performance Awards (CFPA) Placekicker award watch list Monday.

The senior kicker joins an initial watch list that includes 36 returning performers all hoping to win the same award in the Football Championship Subdivision. Aussieker is one of four placekickers from the Missouri Valley Football Conference to make the list. The others include Adam Keller of North Dakota State, Justin Syrovatka of South Dakota State and Thomas Kinney of Southern Illinois.

“Congratulations to Nick on earning a spot on the 2014 CFPA Watch List,” CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith said. “Aussieker will be one of the top specialists to watch in 2014.”

Aussieker earned a 2013 All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honorable mention selection. He earned the honor handling all of the Redbirds placekicking and kickoff duties finishing the season with a team high 62 points scored.  He was 35-for-35 on extra points and 9-of-11 on field with both his misses coming from blocks. Aussieker fell only four points shy of passing Stephen Carroll’s mark as ISU’s all-time leading scorer.

Aussieker has made 29-of-41 on his field goal tries and has been successful on 119 point after tries in his 33 career games at ISU. He ranks second on ISU’s all-time list in field goal percentage, third in PAT kicks made, and sixth on the all-time scoring list with 206 points scored.

CFPA awards are determined and based upon objective scientific rankings that measure to what extent a player increases his teams overall effectiveness.  The CFPA is in its seventh season of recognition and is responsible for handing out awards to 28 NFL first round selections.
