The cemetery and members of the McLean County Museum of History have made the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery Discover Walk free for students and teachers.
The tour of the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery is a chance for students from all around McLean County to learn local history. Actors dress up as historical figures from McLean County’s past and participate in the tour.
Tickets for the event are normally $5 for children and students and $17 for adults. This year, however, schools will only have to pay for the bus ride to take them to the cemetery.
Over 150 historical figures have been featured in the Discover Walk over the years. This year’s walk will have singer Marie Litta, NAACP Member Belle Blue Claxton, Civil War Veteran Adam Guthrie, baseball player Charles “Old Hoss” Radbourn, author Celestia Rice Colby, Statesmen Adlai E. Stevenson II, and Asahel and Mary Gridley.
The actors playing these figures have been researched by the Museum and are dedicated to preserving history.
Tickets go on sale Sept. 2, tours start at the beginning of October. School tours occur during the week and public tours occur on the weekends.
