Illinois State University is dedicated to keeping lifelong connections with alumni, and Milner Library is contributing by offering alumni tools to continue learning after graduation.
Alumni are now able to access databases through Milner without leaving their own homes.
“There are two databases,” Dane Ward, Dean of Milner, said. “Academic Search Alumni Edition is a large all-purpose database that provides full-text articles from magazines and journals in many areas of personal and professional interest. The Business Source Alumni Edition database provides articles in all areas of finance, accounting, marketing and business generally.”
These two databases will provide alumni with a broad range of peer-reviewed journals, periodicals and other full-text documents. Alumni working in any field, or even moving on to or preparing for grad school, can find the resources they need to continue their lifelong education and keep up-to-date on the latest research and scholarship in their area of study.
Many other universities offer access to these databases to their alumni, and ISU has planned to add this to their list of resources for alumni for quite a while.
“We have been moving towards offering these databases for a number of years,” Ward said.
ISU hopes that by making these databases available, students will continue to have the highest quality research tools available to them, even when they leave Bloomington-Normal.
“We wanted to continue supporting our students after graduating. For instance, new teachers will be able to find lesson plans and teaching ideas,” Ward said.
This isn’t the only tool alumni can take advantage of after leaving ISU; Hire-A-Redbird is an online job search tool provided by the Career Center which holds postings from employers looking specifically for ISU graduates.
Alumni can also attend special events, such as reunions, throughout the country and continue to enjoy the connections that attending ISU makes possible. They can even sign up for a special alumni insurance plan through the university.
Access to the databases has been available since the spring semester. Registration information for alumni can be found on the Alumni Association website, Alumni.IllinoisState.edu/Services/Library.
