The U.S. Cellular Coliseum and Pepsi Ice Center city parking deck is taking longer to repair than originally thought.
One of the major structural beams has significant cracking and will need to be replaced, City Manager David Hales said. Most of the parking deck has been closed since October when the crack was initially found.
Designing, manufacturing and delivering a replacement beam will take longer than original estimates suggested. Hales will be asking City Council Monday night to postpone any action on taking bids.
The three companies that originally bid on the project are Structural Preservation Inc., Elgin for $944,710; Golf Construction, Hammond, Ind. for $1,577,870 and J. Gill Co., South Holland for $1,925,000.
The city will be revising the project with the new information and asking the companies to re-bid on the project.
