The Chicago Cubs are set to call up outfielder Jorge Soler, who is one of their top prospects, according to sources. The Cuban outfielder is set to join the Cubs on Wednesday in Cincinnati. Soler was taken out the Iowa Cubs’ game in Washington State Monday night. Soler had crushed a three-run homerun that night, his eighth of the season.
Logan Watkins, Cubs utility man said Soler is a “freakish athlete.” The young outfielder is hitting .338 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs this season. Soler had participated in Triple-A, Double-A and the rookie league. Most of his playing has come with the Triple-A and Double-A clubs.
Soler is the newest call-up for the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs called up prized infielder Javier Baez earlier this month, as well as recalling outfielder Matt Szczur, who was a fifth round pick in 2010. The Cubs find themselves 14.5 games back in the divisional race, but are getting ready to compete in future games.
