Review: ‘If I Stay’ pulls at heartstrings

“If I Stay” is a heart-wrenching, tear-jerking film that will have you sniffling all the way home. If you loved “The Fault in Our Stars” this movie will definitely capture your heart. “If I Stay” was released on Aug. 22 and is based on a novel by Gayle Forman.

Chloë Grace Moretz plays Mia Hall, a high school student and cello playing prodigy. Mia feels like a fish out of water in her family of eclectic musical rock stars.

Raised by two rock junkies, Mia has no idea why she developed a passion for classical music. Ever since she was little she felt drawn to the cello.

Her world is turned upside down when she meets Adam, a punk rock singer. They share an incredible connection and Mia learns to break out of her shell and live the life of a teenager.

As the time for college decisions draws nearer, her biggest problem was deciding whether to pursue her dreams of attending Juilliard or follow the love of her life Adam, to support his dream of being a famous rock star.

In a split second her family is caught in a tragic accident.

Mia survived, but just barely. She finds herself trapped in a limbo between life and death and her best and worst memories. She watches her family rushed to the ER and waits in her ghost-like state while they undergo hours of surgery. In the end, Mia is the only survivor. Mia is faced with a huge decision: stay and have a life with Adam or move on to a place where she can be with her family?

“If I Stay” is a four out of five star worthy film. You will not be disappointed.
