Students are invited to come to the part-time job fair from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the Bone Student Center.
The fair aims to provide students with several opportunities to fill out job applications and have direct interviews with potential employers.
Participating companies this year include private companies such as Buckle, Inc., Plato’s Closet and Orange Leaf. Among not for profit organizations participating are Home Sweet Home Ministries and MarcFirst. Campus offices like ISU’s Admissions will also be present. There are currently 43 companies registered for job fair.
“For students part time positions can be similar to internships, allowing students to gain work experience and exposure to companies and industries they might not be fully aware of,” Career Center Director Stephen Cantine said.“They also provide content for a student’s resume and real-life work experience, which are items necessary for post-graduate success.”
By attending the fair, students will get the chance to learn more about local businesses and the jobs they have available. Several of the participating companies – such as Radio Bloomington and The Snyder Companies – also have full-time positions available.
“When recruiting for full-time positions, companies are always looking for candidates with the ability to make decisions, solve problems, plan and prioritize work,” Cantine said. “[These are] all skills that students can gain through part time positions … Even though the position is ‘just a part time position’ does not mean that it won’t provide a full time experience that students need to be successful after graduation.”
“Many of the students hired as part time employees now will go on to become leaders in their field in just a few short years,” Cantine said.
Students will need to bring their Redbird ID cards and any other information needed to fill out job applications. They will also need to complete registration at CareerCenter.IllinoisState.edu/PartTime. For more information, call the Career Center at (309) 438-2200.
