A late night shuttle bus driver was charged with aggravated drunk driving Sunday night in downtown Bloomington.
Ironically, the party bus is generally used to transport bar patrons who have been drinking.
The driver Stephen Mckenna, 32, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.175, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.
Police said he had a strong alcohol odor on his breath. He failed standard sobriety tests.
Mckenna was driving a bus for Bob’s Blue Night Limo. People in downtown Bloomington flagged down the police around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Police reports state many people were banging on the sides of the bus and, “passengers were seen standing on the entry stairway with the door open as the bus was moving,” according to the Pantagraph.
When the police officers came, the bus hit a guy wire for a utility pole.
The bus riders were transferred to another shuttle bus.
