The University Press Board will be hosting a Fair Trade Coffee Tasting at Milner Plaza from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4. This event will be free to students. There will be prizes offered throughout the event as well.
Fair Trade is an alternative approach to conventional trade. Fair Trade offers small-scale farmers in remote locations the ability to connect with importers to create long-term sustainability. Fair Trade also allows consumers to help poverty-ridden farmers by selling their products in stores.
In addition to the coffee tasting, students will be able to enjoy a show by pop/alternative band, Alex and the XO’s.
Alex and the XO’s formed in March of 2012 at Illinois State University. The band has released two albums and are working on their third, proceeding the debut full length “North to the Future” and sophomore release “Split Screens EP.” They will be touring the west coast in fall of 2014.
