Poise Dance Team ended their spring semester Sunday in Braden Auditorium with an amazing performance filled with impressive choreography. The first act included "Planes and Neon Zombies" choreographed by Stephanie King and Leann Papineau, "Keep Holding On" choreographed by Jessica Abels and Michele Cwynar, "White Houses" choreographed by Courtney Brokamp, "Looking for Myself" choreographed by Brittany Sackmann, "Another Level" choreographed by Julie Rigoni, "Everything" choreographed by Lindsay Chandler and Katie Rogers and "Send your Love" choreographed by Caitlin Huth. Lindsay Chandler, apprentice president of Poise Dance Team, said, "Katie and I just choreograph in our dorm room. To choose the girls, we don't have a selection process. We just show the girls our dance, and they pick whatever dance they want to do and however many they want to do." The second act included "Where the Party At?" choreographed by Victoria Davis, "Love Locked" choreographed by Leann Papineau, "Hide 'n' Seek" choreographed by Brittany Butkiewicz and Lisa Juliano, "Let It Rock" choreographed by Kim Helfer, "Mixed Together to Grey" choreographed by Katie Chaffin and Lisa Juliano and "Circus-Finale" choreographed by Brittany Sackmann. Brittany Butkiewicz, member of Poise Dance Team, enjoyed her last performance as a senior. She said, "I thought it was really good, and this was the first year we had it in Braden Auditorium. So I thought it was a really good way to end my Poise Dance Team time here. All of the dances looked phenomenal. All of the girls worked really hard, and I'm so proud of them." The show also included a capella performances and entertainment by the Normal Guys. They performed "The Way You Do (The Things You Do)," "Hooked on a Feeling," and "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Jon Nelson, member of the Normal Guys, said, "I thought the show was actually really awesome. We performed really well, and the girls did an awesome job." Chandler said, "This year, it was new. We decided to have an actual emcee. So we asked Ashley Cooley, who is an alumni, to come back and be our emcee. Then I went to a music showcase and found the Normal Guys. So we asked them to perform for us." Brittany Sackmann, president of Poise Dance Team, said, "I liked having them. They were really good to have a breather in between, and they did really well." Ashley Cooley, emcee for the show, was a member of Poise Dance Team when it was formed. She is currently a dancer for the Rock River Raptors, a national indoor football league in Rockford. Megan Jones, junior exercise science major, attended the performance to see her roommate, Brittany Butkiewicz. She said, "They said it's low-commitment, but living with Brittany B., we see how much time and effort they really do put into the team." Kelsey Haynes, biochemistry and molecular biology major, also lives with Butkiewicz. She said, "It is easy to see that they have a lot of fun and enjoy what they are doing. It shows in their performance." Sackmann said, "It was a longer show, but I think it went really smoothly overall, and I think the family and friends really enjoyed it. I know the girls had fun." Poise Dance Team will be performing at Relay For Life at 9:50 p.m. on Friday, April 24. |
