Einstein Bros. Bagels is anticipated to open late next spring in the Bone Student Center, widening dining options for students.

alt    The restaurant will be situated where the Cage II Coffee Shop now resides.
Hannah Uram, a senior mass communication, interactive media major, said, “It will obviously be more competition for the existing restaurants and cafes in the area. I think the most impact will be made on local coffee shops like the Coffeehouse on North Street.”
Einstein Bros. menu will include the brand’s full line of coffees and specialty drinks. Also, as the name suggests, the menu will also include their line of signature bagels. Students will also have the option of a large menu of made-to-order breakfast and lunch bagel sandwiches, Panini sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts.
Tracy Widergren, Campus Dining coordinator of market research and analysis, said, “We have already heard very positive feedback from students, faculty and staff alike.  They are excited for both the food and beverage options that Einstein offers, not to mention that breakfast items are served all day, which is something many individuals seem to really be l forward to.”
At the moment, Campus Dining and the Bone Student Center are in search of an architect for the project. However, for those students that need their coffee fix, once the construction is under way, Campus Dining and the Bone Student Center will create a temporary coffee spot within the building in the meantime.
According to Arlene Hosea, director of Campus Dining, the departments are at the moment exploring options for providing the temporary coffee spot.
Uram said, “As for the impact on the student population, I think that more accessible fast food makes for an easier schedule for students. Less of a need to rush home and eat means more time for homework between classes.”
According to Jim Carlson, executive director of the Bone Student Center, the Bone had been looking for ways to create a stronger dinning program to complement its new hangout and meeting spaces. With the opening of Einstein Bros. they can now accomplish this goal thanks to the menu that will serve all parts of the day.
Widergren said, “Einstein Bros. Bagels will fulfill a unique need in the Bone Student Center, and in the larger University Community.  Its purpose first and foremost is to fill the coffee house niche that students, especially, have expressed an interest in.
“We have heard much excitement and expect that the venue will do very well and fit very well into the mix of dining options at Illinois State University,” she said.
