Redbird cross country senior women face last Valley Championship race of their careers.
For three women, Saturday will be the last time lacing up spikes, it will be the last time taking a stance in the starting box and it will be the last time crossing the finish at a State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship cross country meet. The MVC Championships not only marks an important race for all members of the ISU cross country teams, but it also marks a series of lasts for seniors Jess Husted, Olivia Myers and Kirsten Lang. “I guess I try not to think about [Saturday being my last conference] because it makes me sad,” Husted said. “Everyone tells you it goes by so quickly, but you don’t understand it until you experience it. It’s weird preparing for the last one, running is such a huge part of our lives and the fact it’s not going to be this time next year is hard.” With a second place seed going into the Valley Championships, the Redbirds are right on five-time MVC Champions Wichita State’s heels.
