After being somewhat disappointed by the first “Paranormal Activity,” I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the relatively recent second installation.
Perhaps it was the great deal of hype surrounding the film that led to this let down or maybe it was the fact that the previews made it out to be one of the greatest horror films of all time… bold statement if you ask me.
Regardless of what my impression was of this highly anticipated thriller, I was optimistic for the outcome of the sequel. And boy am I glad that I remained hopeful because this second film was notably creepier than the first.
It seems that this one succeeded where the other had failed.
The difference maker, for me, was the addition of the young child. The fact that the demonic spirit appeared to have his sights set on this infant really got to me.
Another aspect that I really appreciated about the film was the manner in which it was tied into the story portrayed in the first “Paranormal.” The plot was set around the same time period; however, the story was told from the perspective of the sister who was only briefly mentioned in the first film.
Now I don’t want to give too much away about the film so I’ll avoid revealing any significant twists. This being said, the curveball thrown at the end of the film is sure to surprise even the most intuitive viewer.
Overall, “Paranormal Activity 2” is far better than its predecessor.
It tied together all the loose ends left by the first film, but at the same time falsified some of the conclusions that may have already been drawn. What it comes down to is this: if you’ve seen the first “Paranormal,”you have almost no choice but to see the second. It was far better (and creepier) as far as I’m concerned.
What about you?
