“Why can’t I be the MVP of the league? Why can’t I be the best player in the league?” These words were uttered by Derrick Rose before this season even began, and most thought this was very improbable and unrealistic. How could Derrick Rose have a better season than Lebron, Kobe, Wade and Durant? Well, for all of you who questioned Rose, it is time to eat your words. Three years ago, the Chicago Bulls were a mediocre team that would always be in the hunt for that No. 8 seed and a quick exit from the playoffs. Then in a split second, the Bulls were pushed back on track to a dynasty. 2008: it was a hot summer day in Chicago when Bulls fans heard they beat the 1.3 percent odds and drew the first pick in the NBA draft lottery. With that pick the Bulls selected hometown hero Derrick Rose from the University of Memphis. Rose won rookie of the year in his first season. His second season was very soild and Rose improved his game a lot. Now in his third NBA season, Derrick Rose is proving not only that he is the best point guard in the NBA, but quite possibly the best player in the NBA. Now I am not saying that Rose is at the level of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, because he is still young and hasn’t accomplished as much as them...yet. I am sure there are many people who think I am outrageous for comparing Rose to those two guys, but if you take a look at this season only, Derrick Rose has been the best player in the NBA and, therefore, should be the 2010-11 NBA MVP. Rose is putting up great numbers this year. He is averaging 25.1 points per game, 7.9 assists per game and 4.2 rebounds per game. And Rose is the only player in the NBA in the top 10 for points and assists. The Bulls have made a great improvement since last year. The team has a lot of good players, but the Bulls live and die by Derrick Rose. Last season the Bulls went 41-41. This season the Bulls have already won 56 games and there is still a week left in the season. Rose has been able to keep the Bulls winning despite long lasting injuries to Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer. The Bulls have had their share of injuries, yet still maintain the best record in the Eastern Conference. Lets be honest, the only player the Bulls cannot afford to lose is Rose. Rose has been more important to the Bulls this year than any player has been to their team. Which brings me to his competition. LeBron James should not be considered for MVP because he has another superstar (Dwyane Wade) on his team. Kobe Bryant is not putting up his best numbers this season. Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant are both having great years, but they are not playing at the level of Derrick Rose. My honest opinion is that nobody in the NBA is playing at the level of Derrick Rose right now. It is amazing how a man so humble and modest off the court can turn into a deadly killer on the court. Rose is not concerned about his stats, he is concerned about winning basketball games and he knows what he has to do to win. When you look at player such as Lebron James who is an amazing basketball player, but is also a pompous, arrogant guy who thinks the world revolves around him, you can appreciate the attitude of Derrick Rose. The kid is special. Rose is an absolute beast who has put the Chicago Bulls back in the hunt for an NBA championship. When you watch him play, you can see in his eyes that all he wants to do is win basketball games. He has done his share of that this year and there is still more to come. There is no debate here, Derrick Rose is the 2010-11 NBA MVP. |
