The Illinois State Alumni Association and Redbird Athletics are hosting "Meet the Coaches" events at the White Sox vs. Brewers game on June 24 and the Cubs vs. Mets game on June 25. Women’s basketball coach Stephanie Glance, football coach Brock Spack, and athletic director Gary Friedman will be in attendance. Prior to the games, venues nearby the two fields will be reserved for a Redbird reception. "The coaches will have the opportunity to speak. Alumni can network with each other, learn about what is going on at the University, and feel like we’re bringing Illinois State to them," Kelly Howell, director of Alumni Relations in the greater Chicago area, said. The Cubs game for alumni has become an annual event, and the Sox game is becoming one in an effort to provide opportunities for all Chicago sports fans, Howell added. This will be the first year that ISU coaches are a part of the events. Director of Alumni Relations on campus Jamie Sennett said this year Redbird Athletics created a partnership with the baseball events to bring the coaches to the games. In previous years the turnout has been good — at least 100 to 150 alumni and their families have attended, including recent graduates. "These sort of events seem to be a great opportunity for recent graduates to attend their first alumni event. We have had a pretty strong showing at these particular events," Howell said. Tickets for a reserved infield terrace area can be purchased through the Alumni Associations Office by June 18. |
