Every other Tuesday, the Coffeehouse pairs up with Music Business Organization and opens up their doors to Open Mic Nights for the public, with tonight being no exception.

It will be the first official night of the Fall 2012 series of Open Mic Nights and all are welcome to come ready to perform their talents to the crowd.

Music Business Organization will be presenting Open Mic Nights at the Coffeehouse & Deli in Uptown Normal the first and third Tuesday of every month, continuing their partnership with the Coffeehouse.

Music Business Organization works to create a fun and welcoming environment for entertainers and guests and runs each Open Mic Night.

As an RSO, they strive to create various events on campus that support their mission of helping music to thrive as a business.

MBO is an ISU Registered Student Organization that hosts Open Mic Nights, creates an on-campus recording studio and a student-run record label and meets weekly to plan different events.

According to MBO member Katie Steel’s campus advertisement, all performers are welcome; they can sing, play, read poetry, tell jokes, anything they feel comfortable with.

Open Mic is run by a first come, first play policy.

“People who are looking to perform can sign up when they get there and each performer will be allowed a certain amount of time that they can perform whatever they would like,” John Boland, Coffeehouse employee, said.

“It is a pretty cool event because anybody who wants to perform whatever they want can come and sign up on the spot,” he added.

Even if getting up in front of the crowd is not what people are looking to do, the Coffeehouse serves a wide variety of food, specialty coffee and tea that can be purchased while performers take the stage.
