On Saturday, Sept. 29 CBS will be holding an open casting call for a future season of The Amazing Race. Auditions are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Flats at 611 Osage St. in Normal. The audition is hosted by Sami. There is no preregistration, so arriving early is best. A table will be set up out front and people can line up as early as they like. Each person auditioning must bring their photo ID and has to be 18 or older. “This is our first time doing this, so I don’t know what kind of crowd to expect. According to CBS, they anticipate it should be a pretty big turnout,” Marc Elder, general manager of Sami apartments said. Should the weather be bad, Sami will move the casting call into their garage, which is on the backside of The Flats. “We did a casting call last spring for Survivor. It had a really nice turnout for that. We had people from as far as Arkansas and Colorado that stood in line … So we’ll see what this is going to bring out,” Elder said. The audition is open to anyone who can make it out. Because the Amazing Race is a team event, come in pairs to audition together. CBS wants to know why the relationship is strong enough to win the race. “It’s definitely a team competition … They’re unlike other casting calls for like Survivor in the past where it’s individual competitions,” Dave Scott, communication executive for WMBD 31, said. Scott explained that the casting directors are looking for unique teams and individuals. Reality TV is always on the hunt for the next person to either love or hate. In addition to having a partner, participants must print and fill out a video release form, which is available at WMBD 31’s website at centraiIllinoisproud.com/sami-amazing-race-casting-call. The form gives permission to videotape the audition. Because recording is the entirety of the casting call, it is important to remember this step. Those who forget the form will be able to fill it out on site. However, the more people that do that, the slower the audition process will go. Each team will have a two minute recorded audition. From there, casting directors will cut the numbers down to 48, to 24, then to 12. More tips and information can be found on the website listed above.
