The Bowling and Billiards Center (BBC) will be hosting a five-pronged tournament this upcoming weekend for ISU students. Bags and table tennis will commence at 6:30 p.m. today in the activity room. The bowling and 9-ball portion will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the BBC. Registration ends today at noon.

Bowling teams must consist of two guys and two girls. Table tennis and 9-ball have a separate men’s and women’s division.

“[Teams and players] can come in; we’ve got sign-up sheets in the BBC. There’s no charge, so actually, if somebody wanted to register, they could register over the phone. Just call the counter and tell whoever is working what they want to participate in, and we’ll write their name down and get their information,” Rick Holmes, manager of the BBC, said.

Each bowling team will play three games. The team with the highest score will be declared the winner.

Billiards is a head-to-head competition where the best three out of five players move on for that specific bracket.

“The champions can go to Champaign the next weekend to participate in a regional tournament to represent ISU. We’re hoping to get some entries in to send over there. The billiards people actually play Friday and Saturday in Champaign, but everybody else will just play on Saturday,” Holmes said.

The Champaign tournament is part of the Association of College Unions International and will be held Feb. 1-2. The BBC holds its ISU tournament annually.

“The bowling part of it has been on and off for the past few years, but the billiards part of it has been annual. Table tennis is annual and the bags are fairly new. This is the first year we’ve done the bags. And in the past we’ve had NAQT, which is a quiz tournament we’ve done for the past three or four years here. But they’re not having that part of it this year,” Holmes said.

The 2012 tournament saw five people participate in the billiards tournament. A total of 18 were a part of the quiz tournament. This is the only weekend of tournaments for the year. Concessions will be open during the tournament for those competing or watching.

To register a team or player, either walk in the BBC and sign on the sign-up sheet or call the BBC at 309-438-2555.  Bowling teams must register together, as a team.
