Next time you are walking through Uptown Normal, take a peek into the adorable boutique, Fabulous Affairs, that has walls filled with everything from quirky gifts to invitations for any event.

At the original location on Gill Street in Bloomington, Fabulous Affairs opened in 2005. In 2009, the business moved to Uptown Normal. Cally Shane opened the business with a background in small business, and a love for stationary, design and paper.

Eventually, Shane decided she wanted some additional help, and her business partner Kacy Rader came in with some fresh ideas.

When the business first opened, it was just stationary and topography. There is a variety of stationary, including anything from thank you cards to fun notepads. When Shane teamed up with Rader the store became a full boutique, expanding into a gift shop as well.

Today the shop carries jewelry and unique products for Greek life, and has gifts for any occasion. Walking through the door, customers will see a variety of custom jewelry and binders with options for how to personalize a gift.

Shane says she would love to expand the Greek life selection.

“A lot of our Greek products are not your typical, average Greek wear,” Shane said.

The price range for Fabulous Affairs goes anywhere from two dollars and up, depending on the product.

There is an impressive variety of personalization options for wedding invitations, graduation parties and showers.

Ashley Koenig/Photographer: “In all things be Fabulous,” is the slogan for Fabulous Affairs in Uptown Normal. The shop features premier paper, stationary and event coordination.

Recently the boutique won an award for their invitation designs. Fabulous Affairs offers anything from personalized phone covers, body lotions and lockets, to other cosmetics and more.

Inside the store, customers can feel the cozy atmosphere and find themselves mesmerized by the store decorations.

Fabulous Affairs is locally owned and operated. The location in Uptown is currently the one and only, and it is just Shane and Rader running the business. Located at 110 E. Beaufort St., near Emack & Bolios, the store is hoping to bring in more student traffic.

“We offer very on-trend, custom design work … even ahead of the trends,” Shane said.

For ISU students going into small business, graphic design or event planning, internship options are available at Fabulous Affairs. Shane and Rader are always happy to meet with students in this area, since Shane said that is how she learned most of what she knows.

Fabulous Affairs is currently working on their e-commerce, so customers will soon be able to shop online.

“We have a lot of big ideas of expansion and franchising, but have not committed to one idea yet,” Shane said.

With the help of more student traffic and more advertising, Fabulous Affairs would love to get the word out about their unique business.

Fabulous Affairs currently has a website where customers can check out their selection, as well as a Facebook page.

For those interested in checking out Fabulous Affairs, they plan to host an anniversary celebration from March 11 through March 15.
